What causes a motorcycle to wobble?

    Basically this:

I noticed a very slight wobble under acceleration coming out of a corner (still slightly leaning) onto a highway on ramp. It was dry and was accelerating harder than I would have otherwise but not anything more than 60-70% throttle. The wobble, which was more of a shimmy, happened so fast that I had enough time to think, "did I just wobble?" after it had happened and just kept going (no crash). Did I accelerate too hard or somehow unbalance the bike coming out of a corner?

The vid shows a hardcore tankslapper. You might have experienced a slighter tankslapper.

Unless the bike’s steering geometry is able to damp out the deflections quickly, the resulting oscillations from the front tyre as it bounces back and forth will swiftly gain in strength, causing the bars to swap from side to side with increasing ferocity. The oscillations can be violent enough to rip the bars out of your hands, and fling your feet off the pegs.

Any tar strips or other irregularities on the road? I've had a few incidents where the front or rear wheel steps out a very small amount and it takes the tires and suspension a few oscillations to calm down (it's double-fun when you have a heavy backpack on ).

The tarmac is 2 years old or so, and I don't recall any bumps. However there is a crosswalk with wide white stripes. After looking at streetview I may have nicked one of the strips with the rear tire as I made a concerted effort to avoid them up front. I'm thinking that may have been it based on entry speed (25mph), the point where I think the wobble occurred, and distance traveled after it went away.

Hopefully this works, but here is where it occurred:

You should be staring right at the onramp.

Oh, thanks Union, I didn't realize there was an actual name for this
