My town hall used to have one of those....And I saw MC Hammer park his muscle car there.
So recently a town nearby has put in some fuel efficient vehicle only parking spaces next to the handicapped to promote a greener earth. I think the idea is cool but look at what i've found parking in those spaces... What do you guys think?

Someone needs to park a VR6 GTI/Jetta their, people wouldn't know, and they'd be showing disrespect towards the sign.![]()
What is "fuel efficient?"That Impala will see ~30mpg on the highway.. 20 in town. Better then a WRX or IS300....
I get 24 in town with the Z... that's the best my 2.slow ever got..
Personally, I'd cut those stupid pandering signs down for just being so idiotic...
Thats just freaking smug.WTF?????
"One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that if you drive into London at 6am, half of the cars on the roads are Porsches and Astons. Whereas if you go in at ten to nine, they’re all Renaults. Simple solution, then. You want a nice car? Get up earlier and do more work."
-- Jeremy Clarkson
I think they're friggin retarded. While I've never seen one around here, if I did, I'd make a point to park in one. My cars are both fuel efficient enough for my needs, so by my definition, they are fuel efficient. Given that they provided no definition, I'll provide my own. Sorry, but owning something that gets better gas mileage doesn't somehow earn you better parking.Yeah, I also park in those pointless "Customer with Child" spaces at Stop & Shop. What, is it harder to push a stroller now than it was five years ago?

That Saab 93 will get over 30 on regular grade gas....pretty damn fuel efficient in it's class if you ask me....Sean

maybe each of those cars had a driver and 5 passengers (doubtfull, I know) that would make them more fuel efficient than some motorcycles

What you get isn't always what you see.
The sign says "Preferred". there is no fine, it isn't an offense to park there. So, phuck em. I'm park my 11 mpg Bronco there just to pi$$ them off more![]()

I like the way you think. If anybody says anything you tell them "It is fuel efficient-compared to my 8mpg H2"

What's the cut off for "fuel efficient"? This is a stupid idea.
Makes perfect sense to me. All the Priuses and Insights can park right away, and all the H2s and Escalades can circle the lot for half an hour looking for a spot.[/sarcasm]
I'm gone.
See when I think fuel efficient I think hybrid or something that is supposed to get 30 mpg almost every time they fill up the tank if not more.

yes! and then they can use 3 gallons just looking for a spot! if anything, there should be 'prefered gas hog' spots so they can reduce the amount of driving for them

i can get over 30mpg on the highway in the solstice (provided i don't put my foot into the turbo). I briefly got 32.2 mpg in florida on warm weather blend gas and long level straightaways.by a similar argument a new impala (31mpg hwy) or corvette (30mpg+ hwy) would be allowed to park there. most folks don't even know how fuel efficient some cars are... making that sign rather stupid.
I can't wait to park in a spot like that, yet I haven't found one so far. If anyone bitches about parking my car there, I'll bark back that it runs better on E10.Where's that Mustang pic with the "FlexFuel" badge that reads "Pump Gas or C16"

Steal the sign.
If I pull up in a Suburban with 8 on board (120 passenger-miles per gallon assuming 15 mpg) can I park there?

But what is the definition of a "fuel efficient vehicle"?
What an utterly stupid and ridiculous waste of signs. What does "fuel efficient vehicle" even mean? The new Tahoe is pretty fuel efficient for a full size V8 SUV, does it get to park there?
I always park my car in the Hybrid spots at Ikea FWIW.
C i find that a problem. a lot of people might think that their vehicle is fuel efficient. i mean most cars get around the same 500k - tank average....might be wrong. it's just a number.
any ways up in new walmarts and shopping centeres in my area they have "hybrid parking only"
which i've only seen the hybrid cars in.when fuel efficient parking is up, basically anyone can have that spot

I'd park a bicycle in it.
haha.
put a pair of running shoes in the parking spot
or a horse!
Quote, originally posted by leaftye » I'd park a bicycle in it. I'd leave my sneakers there. My mpg would be directly proportional to how many mcchickens I get.
those signs are ridiculously stupid.
I consider my car fuel efficient, others might not, that's where these signs fail.

See I think of cars that are yes a hybrid, something that gets a good amount more than a standard car the ones that I think deserve that space are:
Mini cooper (non-turbo)
Prius
Civic hybrid
Old honda fit
old fiesta
TDI's
Mercedes DieselsReally I'm thinking more of alternative fuel high mileage vehicles. But yes it is definitely open to interpretation.
