It may never show up, My 97 Civic has been smashed in the right front corner really good and the total repair was over $5k and it never showed up on carfax
Car was in an accident about a week ago. Anyone know how long it will take for this to show up on CarFax?

I agree, but sadly carfax doesn't always catch everything, it should never be used as the be all end all factor in buying a car, you should always have a car checked out by a good mechanic/someone who can spot accident damage.
If one opened the hood on my 97 Civic they only way they would know it has had body work is the VIN's on the hood and fenders are gone. The former owner said it had been wrecked before I bought it.
The part that sucks is from what I know carfax doesn't know the difference between a simple accident, and a big one.Stuff like body panel damage != stuff that warps the frame significantly. If someone had to replace a quarter panel on a car that I was considering buying, but there was no damage beyond that, I'd be fine with it.

I hit a deer in IL 3 months after buying my Focus brand new and caused $2500 in damage. Had it repaired under ins. at the largest Ford dealer in the area. Checked my Carfax over a year after it occured and it hadnt shown up. For that reason alone, I dismiss Carfax.

My friends WRX had the rear of it almost ripped off four monthes after he bought it. It was repaired at the dealership though insurance and it does not show to be wrecked.

The accident I had in February showed up in a few weeks.

People should get realistic about what CarFax can find. It is mainly a title / registration search. So the car's title and registration history will show, but crashes that are not total loss events (causing salvage titles) may not show, depending on whether crash reports are available to CarFax in the state where the crash occurred.
Seems that a lot of people expect way too much out of CarFax and are disappointed when it does not find something (like a non-total loss crash).
Many, if not most accidents never show up on carfax. My '98 GTI was hit wigth a repair cost that in the end should have totalled the car. It was reported to insurance, there was a police report, and it was repaired by a body shop. Never showed up on carfax. The point is that using carfax to see if a potential car has been in an accident is a bad idea.
Any truth to the $3,000 minimum damage to show up rule?![]()

not sure
it says 1000 on their site
didn't carfax have a buyback program?
carfax doesnt show up accidents unless there really major or the car is totalled. My old probe GT came about $300 away from being totaled, had a whole new (used) front end put on inlcuding one frame rail, and it never showed up.
I had a car that had $15,000 worth of damage done to it by a friend who slid through ice, ran off a road, down a 10 foot drop off, and into a tree. Yes, $15,000 worth of damage! Cops were on the scene, he was ticketed, it was repaired under insurance by a major repair shop and three years later and it was STILL not found under a carfax report. I've since sold the car and the buyer would have had no clue about the wreck if I had not disclosed it (which I did).Anybody who relies on CARFAX reports to determine whether or not a vehicle has been in an accident needs their head examined.
