Subdriven: AUTObiography - Eric Didier's WRX-Powered VW Vanagon

Welcome to the AUTObiography series on Subdriven.

A/bs are designed to highlight the relationship between an owner and his or her automobile. We're not just looking for the wildest, most highly modified cars out there - we're simply looking for people who love their Subarus and have a good story to tell. If you think this describes you, please send us your submission, along with some good quality photos of your Subie. Please note that the more interesting/detailed your answers are to our questions, and the better and more varied your photos, the greater your chances will be to see your story on Subdriven. The A/b form and submission info can be found here.

Until we get more submissions, A/bs will appear on Subdriven once a month, but if quality stories start rolling in, we promise to run them more often.

This month's Subdriven A/b feature is EricDidier

This is crazy! I really wish there were more details in the article. That TMIC looks like it has no breathing room.

I've always said I want to get a white '91 westy and do this conversion so I can pass busloads of nuns doing 100mph uphill in an RV with plaid window curtains.

What's even funner than blowing off nuns, is passing other Vanagon drivers with your best nochalant, "Oh I didn't notice, was I going up hill twice as fast as you?" look.

I've been wondering if the intercooler couldn't be fed outside air somehow by utilising those louvred vents on the rear pillars? Seems like some sort of duct work could be run.

I read a thread about this vanagon when he first put the WRX engine in it. He said the intercooler seems to work pretty well. When I first saw this AB, my first thought was..."oh yeah, I wonder how he solved that intercooler problem?"

    Oh, he hasn't yet

    Still a very cool Vanagon!
